On Thursday, February 8, at 4 pm, a meeting with the Ukrainian artists participating in Estonian arts residencies will take place in the auditorium of the Kai Art Center. The joint project that brings together eight residencies operating in the cultural field was initiated by the Estonian Creative Residencies Network (LOORE). The talk is held in English.
In 2023 and 2024, eight creative residencies organized by the members of the LOORE network from all over Estonia will take place in the framework of the joint project. The two-month-long residencies offer nine Ukrainian artists a safe creative environment and networking opportunities in the local creative field.
The talk brings together the representatives of the Estonian creative residencies participating in the project and the artists currently residing in Estonia: Diana Derii (Maajaam), Andrii Kovalevskyi (Vaskjala), Mykhailo Kailin and Roksana Smirnova (Arvo Pärt Centre), Oleksandra Viazinko (TYPA) who will introduce their creative practices and residency experiences.
The Tartu Artists’ Union hosted in autumn in the guest apartment of the Tartu Art House the artist Eva Alvor whose works stem primarily from psychological states and inner experience. Maria Plotnikova who mostly works with performance art and painting, resided at the Kai Art Center. The writer, artist and actress Sophia Lenartovych who is interested in the archaic song and cultural heritage of the Boykivshchyna region stayed in the residency of the Estonian Literary Society. Copperleg and Maajaam hosted multimedia artist Diana Derii from Kyiv, and Odessa-born experimental sound artist Andrii Kovalevskyi. The Arvo Pärt Centre accommodates the duo of composers and musicians Mykhailo Kalinin and Roksana Smirnova.
In addition to the project initiated by LOORE, MASSIA and TYPA also cooperate with the Artists at Risk network, which assists organizations that stand for the freedom of artistic expression.
The project is funded by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the Nordic Culture Point via the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture.
